Just in time for the holidays, Mariah Carey—Grammy-winning icon, singer of 19 #1 hits, queen of all things holiday, creator of one of the most listened-to Christmas songs of all time—has an early Christmas present for her fans.
Mariah Carey will have her own Barbie doll that will cost $75. Her look is the same: the smile, the hair, the microphone and even the butterfly ring.
Mattel has sold more than a billion Barbie dolls, and Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has already surpassed more than a billion streams on Spotify.
“I didn’t have many toys as a little girl”Carey tells PEOPLE exclusively, recalling her difficult childhood, growing up in a small house in Long Island, New York, with her mother, Patricia Carey, an opera singer. “The only thing I really wanted was a Barbie.”
Carey is known for her perfectionism, whether it’s her performance, style or decorating her Christmas trees. So when she started working with Mattel, she had feedback from the manufacturer.
“I had some reservations, yes”she begins. “The hair and stuff. But when I saw my doll, I was like, “Oh my God, that’s so cute.” Because it’s in the Christmas dress I’m wearing in the second video for All I Want for Christmas Is You, which was directed by Joseph Kahn. “
Carey also shared that she loved Barbie growing up and still enjoys everything about the popular doll.
