When we say Indiana Jones, the image of Harrison Ford immediately pops into our heads. Simply because for all these years this is one of the most iconic roles for the actor.

But it could have been in a completely different way. In his memoir You Never Know, due out in early May, Tom Selleck explains why he wasn’t the iconic adventurer.

It turns out that back in 1980, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were casting for the role of Indiana Jones. Casting in which Tom Selleck stood out the most and it was he who got the role of the adventurer in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Selleck was a huge Star Wars fan and was looking forward to filming, but another role stopped him. It was at this time that CBS bought the rights to the series “Magnum” (Magnum, PI) and wanted to start filming as soon as possible.

It turns out that Selleck just can’t get out of this commitment and has to turn down the role of Indiana Jones. Lucas and Spielberg then moved on to their second choice for the role, Harrison Ford.
