The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the UK for the first time since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

Instead of using their private jet, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to make the trip with a regular airline, The Independent reports.

The couple will visit several charities during their stay and will also travel to Germany in preparation for the Invictus Games 2023 event in Düsseldorf.

Their spokesman confirmed their trip in August and said at the time: “Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are delighted to be visiting a number of charities close to their hearts in early September.”

However, they are not thought to be visiting the Queen, who is currently at Balmoral, nor will they see any of the other members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge.

They are said to be staying at their Frogmore Cottage residence, which Harry ceded to his cousin Eugene when he and Meghan left for Montecito.

Harry and his wife have declined Prince Charles’ “open invitation” to host him at his Scottish holiday home at Balmoral Estate.

The Prince of Wales assured the couple they were “always welcome” at his home even before they left for the UK, palace sources confirmed. News of the rejected invitation emerged after Charles, 73, was pictured attending church alone in Balmoral on Sunday morning. Insiders say he continues to find Harry, 37, and Meghan’s mockery of the royal family “painful” and is “completely baffled” by their behaviour.

In all likelihood, Harry and Meghan are not with children Archie and Lilibeth there because they were not spotted at the airport.

The trip comes shortly after Meghan said she was teasing the monarchy just by “existing”.

The police will not guard the former Dukes. Meghan is expected to give a speech in Manchester today on gender equality. The pair have asked private security firms to provide a “ring of steel” in Manchester for their appearance at the One Young World Young Leaders Forum, amid a row over who pays for their protection on UK soil after they pulled out from their royal titles.
