The life of the legendary Grace Kelly is like a fairy tale – she is a Hollywood star and an Oscar winner, and when a prince steals her heart, she becomes a real princess.

After marrying Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956, Kelly left Hollywood and became Princess Grace, devoting herself to royal life and raising her three children: Princess Caroline (or Carolina) who was born in 1957, Prince Albert who was born in 1958 and Princess Stephanie who was born in 1965.

Unfortunately, Grace’s life ended tragically and far too soon – in 1982, the Princess of Monaco was killed in a car accident while returning from the family’s holiday home.

At the time of the crash, her youngest child – 17-year-old Stephanie is also in the car and is seriously injured.

In a 2014 interview with PEOPLE, Grace Kelly’s only son Albert said that despite the family’s glamorous life in Monaco, Kelly was an active and devoted mother. “Our parents made sure we felt like we were in a normal home. Not like a palace,” he recalls.

In September 2022, Albert, who has children of his own, spoke to PEOPLE about missing his mother, who passed away at just 52 years old. “If I could talk to her, I would tell her that I wish she was here to see her grandchildren and how great they are,” he is frank in the interview.
