On 29.05.2023, in the month of the patrons of Europe – the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet and Slavic literature, Burgas will host the XVII International Festival “Holy Word” – May Meetings of Slavic Artists.
The opening will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Writer’s House, 1 Vola Street.
Since the first edition in 2007, more than 100 writers from Poland, Croatia, Russia, RS Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina have visited our city. This year’s guests at the festival will be: Dr. Sashko Nasev and Prof. Dr. Kristina Nikolovska – Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Šimić Tonin – Croatia, Safeta Osmićič – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Labud Lončar – Montenegro, Anna Bagryana – Ukraine, Aksinia Mihailova – Sofia, Elena Yaneva – Netherlands-Bulgaria, Emilia Avginova – Veliko Tarnovo and Vasil Kostadinov – Pomorie. The participants from Burgas are: Roza Maksimova, Milka Ivanova and Konstantin Koradov.
In the festival program until June 1, artists will take part in literary readings, creative plein airs, blitz competitions for writing poems, inspired by the cultural, historical and natural attractions of Burgas and the region, which will be visited by Fr. St. Anastasia, Chengene Skele fishing village, Begliktash megalithic sanctuary in Strandzha mountain, historical site “Akve Kalede – Thermopolis”, city-museum Nessebar.
Lovers of literature can meet the guests and hosts of “Holy Word” at literary evenings from May 29 to June 1 at the Writer’s House from 6:30 p.m.
Over the years, the contribution of the “Holy Word” Festival to the expansion of contacts and cooperation between artists from Slavic countries has been confirmed – dozens of books from and in the Bulgarian language were translated and published, there were publications in literary websites, magazines and newspapers presenting Burgas authors abroad , within the framework of the festival, ideas were born that turned into projects, some of them already implemented, memorandums of cooperation were signed between Burgas and the cities of the guest participants. Increasingly, our artists are guests at literary festivals in Croatia, Poland, Slovenia, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia.
The organizer of the “Holy Word” International Literary Festival is “Lyuben Karavelov 1940”, with the partnership of the Burgas Writers’ Community Association, with the support of the “Culture” Fund of the Burgas Municipality and private donors.
