Pleven celebrated the 120th anniversary of the museum work in the city with a celebration in the large hall of the Drama and Puppet Theater. Mayor Georg Spartanski presented the director of the Regional History Museum (RIM), Dr. Volodya Popov, with an Honorary Plaque of the Municipality as a sign of gratitude for the efforts of generations of museum specialists to discover and preserve the historical wealth.
We are proud that the development of humanity over millennia can be traced in the Pleven Museum, the mayor noted in his speech. He pointed out that gold treasures were stored in which he had a special interest. Spartanski pointed out that the discoveries continue even today – during the construction of the new section of the highway to Pleven, the builders found finds from antiquity near the Pleven village of Bohot. The Mayor of Pleven noted that the Municipality of Pleven is aware of its responsibility, that is why it invests more than 7 percent of its total budget for the development of the spiritual sphere. On a national scale, 0.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is allocated for culture, he specified.
The mayor personally presented gifts to long-time researchers and museum specialists in retirement age as a sign of gratitude for their worthy contribution to the development of museum work over the years. The director of the RIM, Dr. Volodya Popov, emphasized in his festive speech that the Pleven Museum, since 1984, when it was exhibited in a new building, “is considered by specialists to be a standard, “indicative of the great future of museums in Bulgaria”. The RIM base in Pleven is impressive in terms of volume: 21 halls with over 8,000 square meters of exhibition space, with over 7,500 museum valuables.
Artists from the Drama and Puppet Theater took part in the festive performance. The Pleven Philharmonic and the Municipal Choir performed masterpieces from the world’s symphonic, operatic and operetta heritage under the direction of maestro Georgi Miltiadov. Soloists were the concertmaster Chavdar Valkov – violin, Boryana Besheva – soprano and Dani Mesa – tenor.
