A memorial service in memory of the people’s revivalists was held at the Novoselsky cemetery. The event is organized by the Municipality of Sliven in partnership with “Mati Bulgaria” and the Metropolitanate of Sliven.
Deputy Mayor Stoyan Markov laid flowers on the grave of one of the brightest personalities of Sliven, Dobri Chintulov, as well as other deserving cultural and educational figures.
“Today we are once again around the grave of the great confederate Dobri Chintulov – creator, teacher, writer. He is the creator of works that sing and tell about Bulgaria, remind us that we should remember and honor our past and think about our future. Today we bow our heads in front of all the Bulgarian revivalists who lived, created and devoted all their activities to the preservation of the Bulgarian spirit”, Stoyan Markov said in his speech.
“Today we are again in front of the grave of the first New Bulgarian poet, who bequeathed us his songs and his love for the homeland. It is to him that we owe the development of education in our city. But even now we need wake-up calls in this gray timelessness. Today, we ourselves must be inspirational, be an example to the people around us. In times of globalization, let’s preserve our identity and be aware of what we leave behind,” said the chairman of the “Mati Bulgaria”-Sliven Association, Dora Pondalova.
It is no coincidence that Sliven is proud of its fellow citizen Dobri Chintulov and pays tribute to his work. His works are taught to this day, and one of the most significant “Get up, get up, Balkan hero” sounds every day exactly at 12 o’clock from the clock tower of the Municipality. He is also the author of “Wind howls, Balkan groans”, “Where are you, true love of the people” and many others.
The celebration of November 1 will continue with a torchlight procession of representative groups from the schools in Sliven. It will start at 5 p.m. from the “Rose Garden”, will pass along “Tsar Osvoboditel” Blvd. and will end in front of the monument to Hadji Dimitar and the Sliven revivalists, where a garland will be presented. At 6 p.m. in the hall of the “Stefan Kirov” Drama Theater, the festive concert of the “Konstantin Konstantinov” school, which marks 40 years since its establishment, begins.
