State enterprise “Port Infrastructure” has launched the project for the deepening of the Burgas-West port terminal, the Ministry of Transport and Communications announced.
The contract with the contractor has been signed and work will start in a few days. Its implementation will allow the handling of some of the largest ships in the world with a draft of up to 14.5 m and 80,000 gross tons. Reaching new, greater depths in the water area of the port of Burgas will provide the necessary prerequisites for the development of the terminals and will create more favorable conditions for the operation of the terminal operator, the ministry states.
The work is planned to be divided into two phases. The first includes all activities until the end of the year and will be financed by the Operational Program “Transport and Transport Infrastructure”. The second phase of the project is planned to be included in the Transport Connectivity Program 2021-2027.
After a public procurement by the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”, the “Consortium Kosmos Van Oord” DZZD, which includes the Dutch company “Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors BV” and the Bulgarian “Cosmos Shipping”, was appointed as the contractor for the activities. The value of the contract is BGN 69,983,779 excluding VAT, and the deadline for the implementation of all activities is 204 days.
At the beginning of October, the 63rd General Assembly of the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports – “MedCruise” (MedCruise) was held in Burgas, which was hosted by the Port of Burgas.
