I can’t imagine how we will continue to have any kind of government if DANS is not reformed,” Kiril Petkov, the co-chairman of “We continue the change”, stated in an interview with “Dnevnik”.

His comment on the activities of DANS was in the context of the national security agency’s report last week about the actions of Deputy Minister of e-Government Mihail Stoinov on the days when the authentication of the voting machines was to be carried out. After the report, the Central Electoral Commission canceled the machine voting, with the official reason being that the machines lacked authentication.

“If somewhere we talk about a breakthrough in democracy, this breakthrough this time was clearly expressed by DANS”, said Petkov. “I think that we have some people who are stuck very deep in the security services, as well as in the prosecutor’s office, who are outside the party system per se, but are trying to manage processes in Bulgaria 33 years after the fall of communism. “There is a shadowy part of the government that is not part of the electoral process and where things have not changed. These people with active events are trying to influence the democratic process,” he also commented.
