The leader of GERB, Boyko Borisov, called on the supporters of the party to support Vasil Terziev in the runoff for mayor of Sofia. Borisov did this at a party event in Samokov. According to him, both the government and the country’s Euro-Atlantic path are at stake.
“I am turning to the people of Sofia, to our sympathizers – we must support the government’s candidate – in the case of Terziev, no matter how much we don’t like it from the inside. Let’s see if and what kind of majorities they will form in the municipal council”.
Borisov commented on a Facebook post by Kiril Petkov, in which he called for support from all right-wing voters:
“He appealed to all the right-wing voters and people with democratic values who are in the SDS, “Sinya Sofia” and GERB. I would say the same about their sympathizers.”
And quotes Petkov’s words:
“You may not like PP-DB, you may not like me or the government, but right-wing people, we cannot afford a communist with phraseology and thinking from 1973 to rule Sofia in 2023.”
Borisov said that he listens to what Kiril Petkov said, but will hold him responsible “if he makes a mess in the Metropolitan Municipal Council”. In turn, Borisov also asked the PP-DB leaders to call on their sympathizers to support the GERB candidates in the other cities where the PP-DB do not participate in run-offs.
“If you played with the BSP against our mayors, it will come back to haunt you,” he threatened.
