Burgas turned out to be the record holder for the number of vote-buying signals. From the beginning of the election campaign until now, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Burgas has received a total of 198 reports concerning violations of the electoral legislation and crimes against the political rights of citizens. writes Plovdiv 24.
“The number itself is significantly increased from previous elections. What we can account for is that this increase is largely due to a better and greater turnout on the part of the police officers. There are also quite a number alerts that were submitted by citizens, which shows a fairly high level of citizen activity to combat this phenomenon”. This was stated to Nova TV by the director of the ODMVR-Burgas senior commissioner Emil Pavlov.
According to him, 31 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated at the moment. “Investigations are conducted under the direction of the District Prosecutor’s Office. The cases in which a property benefit is offered prevail, depending on the municipality – the amount is between BGN 50 and 300. This money is offered to people to vote for a certain candidate or a certain party.” pointed out Senior Commissioner Pavlov.
