The Bulgarian authorities decided to expel a Russian journalist from the country after receiving clear instructions from Washington. This was written by the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in her Telegram channel.
According to her, the unprovoked harassment of the reporter began a few days after the visit of the US Deputy Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Liz Allen, to Sofia.
The BNR correspondent in Moscow: There was never any pressure in my work from Russia
“The Bulgarian government received clear instructions on how to conduct “public diplomacy”: censorship, expulsion of Russian journalists, ban on freedom of speech, and to make the American woman’s arguments sound even more convincing, Washington paid almost one million dollars through a specialized grant from the State department… It turns out that the cost of expelling a Russian correspondent from the country, according to the price list of the overseas authorities, is 900 thousand dollars. Loyalty to Washington is priceless”claims Zakharova.
Russia prosecutes the BNR correspondent
At the same time, the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry has no doubt that Bulgaria has realized the inevitability of “mirror consequences” for its citizens and media. The US has always been indifferent to the fate of citizens and the national interests of its “allies”, concluded Zakharova.
The reason for her comment is the expulsion from Bulgaria of the correspondent of “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” Alexander Gatsak and the retaliatory actions taken by Moscow related to the expulsion of the correspondent of the BNR Angel Grigorov.
