The treasures in the historical museum in Vidin

Over 63 thousand exhibits are stored in it

The Historical Museum is one of the oldest scientific and cultural institutes in Vidin, an important socially significant center for storage, scientific processing and popularization of cultural and historical values.

Archaeological research begins in over 40 sites in Northwestern Bulgaria

The beginning of museum work in the Vidin region dates back to 1910, when the Archaeological Society was founded and the first museum collection was organized. After the wars of the mid-20s of the 20th century, the “Bononia” archaeological society intensified its collecting activities and organized an exhibition of mainly numismatic materials and Bulgarian needlework in the building of the old Turkish post office.

The library collection of the museum, numbering over 4,600 volumes, serves both museum specialists and many institutions, citizens, students and pupils. Qualified museum specialists – historians and philologists – take care of the museum funds, which store more than 63 thousand exhibits.
