Sofia will not set new conditions for the full integration of North Macedonia in the European Union, the agreed conditions must be fulfilled, said the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.
Escobar told VOA that his Bulgarian colleagues assured him that they had no intention of adding more conditions to North Macedonia on the way to the EU. They emphasized that Bulgaria wants to make sure that the region will move forward along the European path.
“I have had conversations with my Bulgarian colleagues and they have assured me that they have no intention of setting new conditions. They would like to see progress on the road map that is already in place. And we want to make sure that we can work with all countries, to ensure that these conditions are met. We must be based on facts and existing obligations to ensure that North Macedonia will be able to move forward in the accession process,” the US envoy said.
Escobar indicated that there would be no veto if the conditions were met.
