Voting will only be done by paper in two of the sections of tomorrow’s mayoral runoff in Blagoevgrad after an unregulated move of machines. This was decided by the Central Election Commission, after a signal from one of the candidate mayors.
According to him, after their delivery to the “St. Kliment Ohridski” foreign language secondary school, the two machines in question were taken out of the sections by unknown persons, without a specialized vehicle and without police protection.
The chairman of the municipal commission, Martin Busarov, told the BNR that during their subsequent inspection, the sections had already been sealed.
The CEC also received explanations from the police, according to which the voting machines were intended for other sections in the city and were taken out by technicians, but without the mandatory police escort. The deputy chairman of the central commission, Tsvetozar Tomov, motivated the decision to vote only on paper in these sections:
“According to unofficial data, the persons who transported the machines did so without a police escort and security. They have been identified and are being interrogated by the investigative authorities. Given that they were for some time unattended and were being transported irregularly, although the most it is probably really a technical error and the degree of risk is low, my opinion is that it would be more reasonable to have only paper voting in these 2 sections”.
