Losing her mother and uncle to cancer, the disease strikes her too
A 19-year-old girl from Vratsa beat cancer after losing her mother and uncle to the insidious disease.
Despite her tender age, Gergana Petrova faced a number of trials, which, although difficult, she managed to cope with. Her fate is extremely difficult. Her mother Desislava died of breast cancer in 2010. Geri was only 6 years old then and had not yet started school. Her uncle Miroslav also passed away from stomach cancer. Then the insidious disease strikes her too.
“Cancer befell Gergana in 2017, and since then her life has been a constant struggle. She is a wonderful girl, it is very sad that she has to go through this,” Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov told Bulgaria Today.
After a series of chemotherapies and total hip replacement surgery, the girl’s cancer returned. In order to save her and overcome the insidious disease, a medical committee makes the difficult decision to amputate one of the girl’s legs in order to prevent the complications from spreading throughout the body.
“As of this moment, her treatment continues. Her father Emilian, who is her personal assistant, takes care of her wholeheartedly,” says Kamenov.
In order to have a fuller life, Gerry needs a prosthesis, as well as means of treatment going forward. Unfortunately, the amount of BGN 59,800 is too much for her father, and for this reason he is asking for help. Anyone wishing to support the young girl can do so to the following account:
