Doctors in Vrachansko are getting old – News

The number of doctors in Vrachansko is decreasing, while at the same time their age is increasing – this is evident from the data of the National Statistical Institute. By the end of 2022, 572 doctors are practicing on a basic employment contract in medical and health facilities in the Vratsa region. There are 110 dentists and 1,029 healthcare professionals, of which 676 are nurses, 63 are medical laboratory technicians, 81 are midwives and 76 are paramedics.

308 doctors, 13 pharmacists and 637 medical health care specialists practice in hospital care facilities.

In outpatient care facilities, there are 224 doctors working on a basic employment contract, 110 dentists and 99 health care medical specialists.

As of 31.12.2022, 40 doctors and 293 medical specialists in health care work on a basic employment contract in other medical and health facilities (including nurseries and offices in schools).

The ratio of women to men as of December 31, 2022 is in favor of female doctors. Men are 248 (43.4%), women – 324 (56.6%), with the largest share of doctors in the age group 55 – 64 years – 224, or 39.2%. Young practicing doctors (up to 35 years) are 38, or 6.6%, and the oldest (65 and over) – 162, or 28.3%.
