Thousands are without electricity in populated areas of the Smolyan region due to a strong rainstorm.. Currently, half of the villages in the Smolyan municipality are without electricity. There are broken cables, and in the village of Katranitsa, electric poles have been broken. Fallen trees also closed the road from the village to Smolyan. Due to the numerous accidents, the EVN teams are unable to remove them in time.

Roofs were also blown away in the villages of Polkovnik Serafimovo and Gorna Arda. Fallen trees and stones closed the roads between Shiroka Laka – Gela – Solishta. The Smolyan-Ryaka road is also closed to traffic. There are fallen stones on the road to Gorovo and

Chepletten. Fallen trees and stones are the reason that it is not possible to pass in sections to the village of Fatovo – Rudozem.

“There are reports from Smolyan, Madan, Chepelare, Banite and Zlatograd about damage caused to the infrastructure. So far, there is no national road completely closed. There are broken power lines everywhere and dozens of villages are without electricity,” said the director of “PBZN” – Smolyan Commissioner Simeon Tsrvulanov. An orange code has been announced in the Smolyan region and the forecast is for significant rainfall and thunderstorms.
