AFTER THE TERRIBLE STORM: Describing the damage done in North-Eastern Bulgaria – Bulgaria

P continues the struggle with the consequences of the storm that passed through Northern and North-Eastern Bulgaria on Saturday. Two people died, and dozens of settlements are still without power due to fallen trees and broken power poles.

There is also damage in the Rhodopes. There, fallen trees blocked traffic on main roads, and there are still villages without electricity.

A state of emergency was declared in the village of Lavino. 150 houses have their roofs blown off or with partial damage to the structures of the buildings, there are collapsed garages and fallen pillars. Rebuilding the settlement will take time. The storm was extremely strong, and people say they saw a black wind. Just two minutes after the storm hit, the massive damage was done. The mayor of Isperih announced that three teams will describe the damage today, these are municipal administration employees.

“An inspection and an inventory of the damage will be done. A protocol will be sent to the Commission on Disasters and Accidents in due course. We will do our best to complete the inspection today. If necessary, the teams will work around the clock. Almost all the victims spent the night in their homes,” said the mayor of the settlement.

The head of the district police office in Isperih said that a good organization has been established. “We are ensuring continuous police presence until normalcy is restored in the village,” he added.
