“In order to vote, Mr. Asen Vassilev should present an official document from the USA that as of April 28, 2023, his address in this country has been deleted and is not active,” said the chairman of the OIC in Haskovo, Dobromir Yakimov. According to him, if the Minister of Finance presents the necessary evidence, there will be no obstacle to exercising his right to vote in his hometown. Last week, Asen Vassilev was unable to vote in Haskovo because it turned out that his current address since 2000 was in the US, which put his name on the banned list.
“The situation has not changed to date,” said Dobromir Yakimov. He recalled that the letter of the MRRB with instructions to the municipal election commissions to fill in gaps in the election legislation has been withdrawn.
“We received an express letter from the CEC about this”, explained the chairman of the Haskovo OIC. In the letter from the CEC, it was also stated that the requirement of being settled must be strictly observed.
Meanwhile, a prosecutor’s file has been opened in the case of Asen Vasilev.
“I was very surprised when they called me to give explanations on Friday. It was not clear to me why they wanted us to explain that we had followed the law. I asked the police inspector on what basis the file was created. She stated that it was created by a decree of the prosecutor’s office. I don’t know what is being investigated. There is not even an election violation, much less evidence of a crime,” said Dobromir Yakimov. He added that many documents have been requested from the OIC, which will be provided after the election.
“I, as the chairman, have written a motivated explanation, which I hope the prosecutor will credit, in order to convince himself that everything is legal on our part and on the part of the municipal administration,” Dobromir Yakimov said.
