
Election day in the Blagoevgrad region began in a calm atmosphere. All necessary measures have been taken to protect public order, fire safety and ensure a peaceful election day.
The employees of ODMVR-Blagoevgrad have taken over the security of 365 sections on the territory of the district. An organization has been created and the “Bulgarian Identity Documents” units at the ODMVR-Blagoevgrad will work today from 08:30 to 19:00. They will issue certificates for lost/stolen/damaged/destroyed ID cards and expired documents with a view to exercising citizens’ voting rights.
We remind you that armed persons and those carrying objects dangerous to the life and health of citizens are not allowed in the polling station. The use of mobile phones, cameras or other recording equipment for the purpose of recording the voting process is prohibited.
The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs intervene to restore order when it is necessary and there is a corresponding decision of the electoral commission.
Eight candidates for mayor are fighting for the trust of the voters in four out of a total of fourteen municipalities in Blagoevgrad region. In 34 villages we elect a mayor of a town hall.
In Blagoevgrad, the independent candidate supported by GERB Ilko Stoyanov and the PP-DB candidate Metodi Baikushev face each other.
There are 141 voting sections on the territory of Blagoevgrad Municipality, and in 120 of them, voting takes place with ballots and machines. Those with the right to vote are over 63,000 people.
A second round of the local elections is also held in Petrich, where Dimitar Bruchkov from GERB and Stoyan Ruykov from SBOR are facing each other. There are 92 polling stations, and 67 of them have machines. Those with the right to vote are nearly 45,000 people.
The mayoral race in Razlog is also interesting, where Krasimir Gerchev from GERB and Ventsislav Germenov, nominated by the local coalition SDS (VMRO BND), are fighting for a four-year term. Those with the right to vote are nearly 17,000 people, who can vote in 28 SIKs, of which 27 have mixed voting.
In Sandanski, Stoyan Stoev from the GERB party and the independent candidate Atanas Stoyanov are running for mayor of the municipality. The number of voters is about 33,500. Voting takes place in 71 sections. In 49 of them, voting is by machines and paper ballots.
