Manchester City achieved a crushing success with 6:1 over Bournemouth, and summer signing Jeremy Doku became a hero for Guardiola’s team, who scored a goal and provided 4 assists. After the final whistle, Pep praised the Belgian, even allowing himself to be compared to Lionel Messi.
Was Pep too hasty with this comparison?
Pep Guardiola commented on the striker’s electrifying performance. Asked if Doku is one of the best players in the Premier League, the Manchester City manager told “BBC Sport”that the youngster reminds him of Lionel Messi.
“He took a good shot from a short corner, and after the first goal the contribution for the second looks like Lionel Messi to me. I remembered, at that moment, that Messi has done this many times. Maybe that is too much of a compliment for him, but he deserves it “unquestionably”the Spanish tactician is emphatic.
Apart from the goal and the assists, Jeremy Doku hardly put a foot wrong against Bournemouth. The Belgian made four dribbles, won six duels and recorded 12 touches in the opposition box – more than any other player on the pitch.
Doku joined Manchester City in the summer for a fee of €60 million, which was paid to French side Rennes. With his performance against Bournemouth, he even broke 2 Premier League records.
