Four municipalities in Pirin today elect their mayor, who will govern for the next four years. In the regional center of Blagoevgrad, the independent candidate and current governor Ilko Stoyanov, supported by GERB and SDS, and the candidate of the Coalition “Continuing the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” face each other. In the first round, Stoyanov received about 1,800 more votes. In Sandanski, the citizens’ choice is between the independent candidate Atanas Stoyanov, supported by VMRO-BND, and Stoyan Stoev from GERB.
In Petrich, Stoyan Ruykov from SBOR is facing the previous mayor Dimitar Bruchkov, and in Razlog the battle will be between two former mayors – Krasimir Gerchev from GERB and Ventsislav Germenov from the Coalition “SDS – VMRO-BND.
In 10 municipalities in the region, the mayor was elected in the first round. In eight of them, the previous rulers won the battle. In Gotse Delchev, the mayor is Vladimir Moskov, in Hadjidimovo – Lyudmil Terziev, in Satovcha – Arben Mimenov, in Garmen – Feim Isa, in Belitsa – Radoslav Revanski, in Strumyani – Emil Iliev, in Kresna – Nikolay Georgiev, in Simitli – Apostol Apostolov. There are new mayors in the municipalities of Yakoruda – Mehmed Vakliev, and Bansko – Stoycho Banenski.
