All 5 municipalities in the Targovishte region elected their governors in the first round. For comparison, in 2019 there was a runoff in 2 municipalities, in the other 3 the mayor was also elected in the first round.

There will be a new mayor only in Opaka. Over 52% of the residents of the municipality preferred Guner Ashimov for mayor. All mayors in Opaka municipality have been elected in the first round so far.

IN Targovishte Dr. Darin Dimitrov will manage for the third consecutive term. He won nearly 70% of the votes ahead of the second – the independent candidate Radoslav Boychev

The longest-serving mayor in the entire country, that of Popovo, Lyudmil Veselinov, begins his 9th term. He won the first democratic elections way back in 1991 and has held the mayor’s chair ever since. In these elections, nearly 63% of the municipality’s residents voted for him in the first round.

Hayredin Mehmedov will govern for 2 full terms in Antonovo. More than 57% of those who went to the polls voted for him. In the 2019 elections, he won again in the first round – then with 59%. In all the villages in the municipality, the mayors were elected in the first round.

Omurtag elected its previous mayor in the first round. Eshref Eshrefov, received just over 51% of the votes. This is quite enough to secure a third consecutive term. In the 2019 elections, Eshref Eshrefov won again in the first round with 65.5%.

Thus, in Targovishtko DPS will manage in 2 municipalities – Antonovo and Opaka, NDPS in 1 – Omurtag. GERB also has one municipal mayor – in Targovishte. One municipal mayor, that of Popovo, is independent.
