The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SGP) brought charges before the Sofia City Court (SGS) against V.S., an Italian citizen, for intentionally causing the death of A.Sh. on 26.05.2022 in Sofia for the injured party – a crime under Art. 116, para. 1, item 6, item 2, paragraph art. 115 of the Civil Code.
According to the indictment, the accused V. S. and the victim A. Sh. met at the end of 2019. They initially lived together in the apartment of the accused, and in November 2021 they rented an apartment on Chukar Street in the city of Sofia . Along with the apartment, they also rented a garage in the same building on level -1.
During their cohabitation, the two registered a commercial company, and in the meantime, A. Št. taught Latin dances. The last occupation of the victim, which was also her hobby, became the main reason for the misunderstanding between the two, as the accused often showed jealousy, caused scandals and insulted the victim in order to force her to stop her activities related to Latin dancing.
The accused and the victim finally separated in February 2022. A. Sht remained living in the apartment on Chukar Street, which she secured with alarm and security equipment. She continued to use the garage cage to park her personal car.
On 11.04.2022, V.S. took the victim’s personal car for use, and was supposed to return it to her in 2-3 days. When this did not happen, A. Sh. filed a complaint in 07 RU-SDVR and after the intervention of the prosecution authorities and the Ministry of the Interior, a few days later the accused returned the victim’s car. She immediately took the car to a car wash, where it was thoroughly cleaned. After that, the accused did not enter the car again until the murder of the victim.
On 20/05/2022, V. S. made a reservation for a two-way plane ticket to the Republic of Italy and back.
On 26.05.2022, in the evening, the accused went to the victim’s address and waited for her to come home.
At the same time, A. Sh. was visiting her mother. She left around 10:40 pm and drove to her home in her private car. Arrived around 00:00 on 27/05/2022 and went down to level -1 of the building to park the car. Seeing this, the accused went near the vehicle. When the victim was outside her car, the accused, using a hard blunt object not identified in the case, attacked her, inflicting numerous blows on her head, body and limbs. As a result of this, V.S. caused A.S. severe open craniocerebral trauma and numerous bruises and abrasions on the head, body and limbs, and each of her injuries was accompanied by a feeling of pain and suffering of varying intensity until the moment when the victim became unconscious. As a result of the severe open craniocerebral fracture of the skull, hemorrhages under the brain membranes and contusion of the brain substance, the death of A. Sh.
Immediately after that, V.S. took the victim’s mobile phone, put her body in the trunk of her private car, got into the driver’s seat and drove off in the direction of the town of Pernik.
When he reached a grassy area in the area of the old I-6 road leading to the Batanovtsi pumping station in the direction from Batanovtsi to Radomir, the accused stopped, removed the victim’s body from the trunk of the car and threw it on the right side on the road, covered it with a tarpaulin, on which he placed stones, bricks, building materials and plastic parts from a car.
After that, he got into A. Sht.’s car and returned to Sofia. He again visited a metropolitan hypermarket with her car, where he bought food, socks, a floor brush and cleaning products, went to the victim’s address and parked her car on level -1. He immediately set about cleaning the car, then put it in the garage cage, went up to A. Sh.’s apartment, where he washed his hands and the cleaning tools he used and put them in a plastic bag that he took when leaving the cooperative and thrown into a garbage container. V.S. left the victim’s home at around 05:45 on 05/27/2022 and returned to his home at around 06:26 on 05/27/2022.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on the same date, he rented a car and drove with it to the Republic of Greece, the territory of which he entered around 7:00 p.m. through the Tower checkpoint. He continued to the port of Igoumenitsa, from where he reached the port of Brindisi in the Republic of Italy by ferry.
Even while he was in Bulgaria on his way to Greece, V. S. had conversations with his intimate friend. He told her that he was being blamed for the disappearance of A. Sh. The accused asked his girlfriend, if anyone asked her, to say that she was with him from 26.05.2022 until the morning of 27.05.2022, except the time he was in the hypermarket. She agreed, and while they were talking she translated articles from Bulgarian websites. That’s how he found out that A. Sh.’s body had been found. He then told his girlfriend he needed to get a lawyer, asked her to delete all her correspondence with him and asked her to say she didn’t know him if asked.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the SDVR under the direction and supervision of the SGP.
V.S. was detained on 29/05/2022 on the territory of the Republic of Italy after the SGP issued a European Arrest Warrant.

The accused has been remanded in custody by the SGS at the request of the SGS.
