He received 50.21 percent support
Only 800 votes separated the winner from the defeated in yesterday’s heart-breaking election day in Blagoevgrad. Metodi Baikushev won with 50.21 percent of the votes. Ilko Stoyanov came second with 47.2 percent support.
Both candidates in the runoff made brief statements at a time when the winner was still unknown. Both spoke of pressure and economic interests in the run-up to election day.
“The responsibility is great. We will work tirelessly to justify the trust of the citizens. And above all, we will work for the unification of Blagoevgrad. I want to see a true inspiration in the eyes of the citizens of Blagoevgrad. Because in the last few years, despondency has settled in us. That’s why we we said that our mission will be to serve the city,” said the newly elected mayor of Blagoevgrad, Metodi Baikushev.
