On 01.11.2023, students from the “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” visited the scientific center “PlanetUm”, the city of Burgas. The one-day excursion was attended by young people from grades 8 to 12 studying in the “Natural Sciences” profile.
With enthusiasm and smiles on their faces, the students embarked on trying out the various educational installations. They used interactive exhibits, thanks to which they learned about the properties of water – its density depending on its salinity, the dynamics of fluids, wave power and how it can be used to generate electricity. Everyone had the opportunity to build a windmill with their own hands, attaching different types of blades to the turbines and finding out the most suitable attachment angles and shape of the blades for maximum electricity production, depending on the strength of the wind. The students looked at different samples under a microscope, understood how geographic coordinates are determined, worked with a sextant and explored the seabed. They felt how difficult it is to work while wearing a deep-sea diving suit and found out if it is possible for vehicles to move if they have square tires. They had the opportunity to experiment with the power of the wind, magnets, understand how clouds are formed and learned about various scientific discoveries that are inspired by nature.
The educational excursion was organized by the teachers of natural sciences – Petya Todorova and Krasimira Karagineva and teachers of geography and economics – Ivan Dimov and Svetlin Gochev.
