Official testing of the BG ALERT early warning system begins today in the Gabrovo region.
For half an hour from 12 to 12:30 a message will be broadcast, containing text in Bulgarian and English.
Subscribers of all three mobile operators in the Gabrovo region will receive these messages.
They are expected to be one-time and accompanied by a specific sound and vibration, even with the mobile device in silent mode.
On newer operating versions, “BG ALERT. Caution, danger. Test message” will be displayed. On older versions of phones it will say “Signal from the President. Test message”.
After the Gabrovo region today, the next Tuesday the test of the system will take place in the Vidin, Vratsa, Lovech, Montana and Pleven regions.
Trials of the system will continue across the country until November 29, when a nationwide test will also be held.
On November 1, before the official tests, a human error by one of the contractors outside the Ministry of the Interior was the reason for the BG ALERT distress SMS message to some citizens.
As of September, there are 17 countries in Europe that have such a system. Its software is developed so that, based on what delineation of the territory will be made, all cells of mobile operators that fall within it will automatically send a message to the devices connected to them.
