A 24-year-old man from Lyaskovets, known to the police but not convicted, is the driver who hit Ferrari Spasov’s car with a sports Mercedes on Saturday“24 Chasa” reported.
The driver has 16 months of experience and was driving the powerful car at a very high speed. The hypotheses are for about 150 km/h. This is yet to be established with expertise. The Mercedes hit Spasov’s Volkswagen from behind.
The young driver of the other car and the 28-year-old woman who was traveling with him were taken to the emergency room with minor injuries. It was found that the two had only lacerations, the driver had a hematoma on the head. They are released for home treatment.
The Mercedes driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol.
We remind you that football coach Ferrario Spasov (61 years old) died in an accident near Veliko Tarnovo on Saturday.
Spasov is among the big names among coaches in Bulgarian football. He won the title with Litex in 1999, as well as the Bulgarian Cup in 2001.
The accident happened on the road Sofia – Varna in the area of Sheremetya village. Spasov traveled to Lovech after a match of the team he works with now – Dunav (Lom). The footballers played against “Lokomotiv” (Gorna Oryahovitsa).
Around 5pm on Saturday 61-year-old Spasov’s car was hit by another car that was moving at high speed and entered the oncoming lane.
In his career, the coach also led “Olympic” (Galata), “Spartak” (Varna), CSKA, “Danube” (Ruse), “Botev” (Plovdiv), “Eter”, “Spartak” (Pleven), “Beroe “, “Sevlievo”, and until February of this year he was at the head of “Montana”. In the period from 2008 to 2011, he was the coach of the national under-17 team. As a football player, Spasov played 350 games for “Osm” (Lovech), where he had two periods, and also played for “Spartak” (Pleven), “Dnevnik” recalls.
In another car accident on the road Lovech – Pleven, the president and coach of volleyball “Olympiats” Stefka Velikova and two players – Kaloyan Minkov and Simeon Simeonov died. The three traveled to a match in Lovech.
Two more people were injured in the collision.
According to the investigators, the cause of the accident was wet pavement during heavy rain.
A 19-year-old young man was transported to the Pleven hospital in a serious condition, and the 50-year-old driver of the other car was left for treatment at the Hunting hospital.
The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BFV) and Pleven announced three days of mourning.
In total, four people died and 28 were injured in a total of 20 serious road accidents in the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of the Interior announced. In Sofia, there were 25 minor accidents and one serious accident in which one person was injured.
Since the beginning of the month, there have been 223 serious road accidents in the country. 16 people died in them, and another 294 were injured. Since the beginning of 2023, there have been 6,063 accidents in the country, in which 466 people lost their lives. A total of 7,925 people were injured.
