A driver with American citizenship and a Bulgarian passenger are the victims of the accident on the main Sofia-Varna road near Novo Selo, which happened last night around 7:20 p.m., the District Prosecutor’s Office in Veliko Tarnovo announced.
In the road accident, two cars collided head-on – “Toyota” and “Mercedes”. The state prosecution specifies that the section was straight and the pavement dry.
According to initial data, the Toyota, which was moving in the direction of Sofia, driven by a 36-year-old American and a Bulgarian passenger of the same age, collided head-on with a Mercedes, driven by a 40-year-old driver and with a 19-year-old passenger.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the Japanese car and his passenger died on the spot.
An inspection of the accident scene was carried out with the participation of an auto expert, a medical examiner and a prosecutor on duty from the District Prosecutor’s Office-Veliko Tarnovo.
A pre-trial proceeding was established under the leadership of the District Prosecutor’s Office-Veliko Tarnovo.
The driver of the Mercedes was tested for alcohol and narcotic substances with a technical means and the samples were negative. The bodies of the two victims were taken to MOBAL “Dr. Stefan Cherkezov” for an autopsy, and a blood sample was taken for alcohol and drug use, the results of which are awaited.
Witnesses are being questioned, expertises have been appointed and all necessary investigation actions are being carried out to fully clarify the reasons and circumstances that led to the accident.
