Emergency teams from various institutions showed during teaching in Sofia reactions and the first ones important steps in mastering the extraordinary situation.

The scenario – flooding in the area of ​​Pancharevsko Lake and caused by it pollution with dangerous pathogens. The signal for expected large quantities followed precipitation in the Sofia region, organizing monitoring of the situation, collecting up-to-date data with the help of modern technologies and convening an interagency crisis headquarters.

The scenario was expanded to include that the waters rise and flood ground floors of the one next to the cup of the lake medical centrewhere there are containers with hazardous waste – a prerequisite for pollution and on the lakeand on a river Iskar.

Teams from the DG Fire Safety and Protection of the Population (DG Fire Safety and Protection of the Population), Directorate “Emergency Assistance and Prevention” – Sofia Municipality, Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate (SRHI), Regional Environment and Water Inspectorate (RIOSV-Sofia) and “Sofia” participated in the exercise. water”-JSC. The exercise was implemented by the Directorate “Communication and Information Systems” – Ministry of Internal Affairs (DKIS) within the framework of the PathoCERT project, financed under the EU’s Horizon 2020 scientific research and innovation program. The leading partner and coordinator is the Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, and the implementation is entrusted to an international consortium of 23 partners from 11 countries.
