Hunters to assist with fall vaccination of foxes against rabies. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF) called for this. They appealed that in the event of a dead fox or jackal being shot or found, the carcass should be handed over to the State Forestry and Game Farms. From there, additional control should be carried out.
The Ministry of Health specified that the handover of the corpses takes place through a handover protocol. After that, they will be paid according to Order RD 48-16 of the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry from 2021.
The organization of storage and transport will be carried out by the directors of the holdings. For the convenience of hunters, the mobile application “Hunting Module” was created. There they can find complete information about the above activities.
The Ministry of Health specified that the samples are taken by the Regional Food Safety Directorates. Subsequently, they are sent for examination at the National Diagnostic Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine.
“When handling corpses, all safety measures should be observed,” the department stressed.
An official veterinarian should be notified when suspicious carcasses are found.
We remind you that the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency started the traditional autumn vaccination of foxes against rabies on November 4. It will last until the end of the month. The campaign is carried out by specially equipped aircraft and by hand. The activities cover the 50-kilometer zone along the northern, western and southern land borders of the country, as well as in the 20-kilometer zone along the Danube River, including a total of 23 districts.
