Nearly 60 beekeepers from the Pleven region are united in the newly created “Pleven Honey 2023” cooperative. A large part of the beekeepers in the cooperative are professionally engaged in beekeeping. There are those with 50-60 hives, and others with 700-800, said the chairman of the organization, Petyo Petrov. He pointed out that this year the members of the cooperative produced 200 tons of copper, of which 50 tons was organic.
The purpose of the association is to help the beekeepers from the district both in the realization of their production in bulk, and for the purchase of inventory, veterinary-medical products for the treatment of bees against various diseases and others.
According to Petrov, among the most serious problems of beekeepers, not only in Pleven, but throughout the country, is the import of honey. “There is a huge depot for honey from Ukraine in Poland. However, since it is on the territory of a European Union country, it is already offered in Bulgaria as Polish honey,” explained Petrov. He indicated that between 5,000 and 7,000 tons of Polish honey enters Bulgaria annually. “However, this is not Polish, but Ukrainian honey at a low price, which enters our factories and thus kills our market,” the beekeeper is categorical.
“Pleven Med 2023” cooperative is among the organizers of the Honey and Bee Products Bazaar in Pleven, which will take place from November 23 to 26.
