“The French Quarter” directed by Denislav Yanev will have its premiere in Sofia, on the stage of the “Bulgarian Army” theater, according to the team of the performance.
In the focus of the performance, a production of Drama Theater “Geo Milev” – Stara Zagora, are the lovable, but pushed to the fringes of society and suffering from their obsessive self-delusions residents of Motel “Flamingo”.
The writer, in whose image Krasimir Nenkov is reincarnated, falls into this conglomeration of restless souls after escaping from his home – in search of his true nature and vocation. He discovers the confusion of the world outside the comfort of home and encounters for the first time the sex drive, loneliness, death and compassion, on the road to maturity. All this happens in the Flamingo Motel, managed by Mrs. Waiger, whose role is entrusted to Galya Alexandrova.
“The play ‘The French Quarter’ is our shared cry with Tennessee Williams for more humanity and compassion in a cruel and increasingly pragmatic world. The production is large-scale because there are several parallel storylines and you see problems typical of different generations,” explains Denislav Yanev. “I have a particular affinity for the dance theater and rather for the life of a body in the drama theater. We tried to read the bodies in such a way that they become hieroglyphs that say more than what the characters themselves say about themselves,” says the director.
The creative team also includes Iliana Kancheva (set designer), Nedelya Gancheva (choreographer), Nikolay Vladimirov (composer). Participating are Krasimir Nenkov, Galya Alexandrova, Georgi Georgiev, Tsvetomir Cherkezov, Maria Eneva, Diana Naydenova, Elena Azalova, Tony Toncheva, Georgi Nozhdelov, Ilcho Dimitrov, Sezer Sami.
