By order of the Acting Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office begins an investigation into the activities of the President and the management of the Federal Security Service. The accusation was self-reported in connection with numerous publications in the media containing information about committed violations and/or crimes of a different nature – spending of public resources, “black lottery” and others, by the leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union, including and by the president of the federation Bobi Mihailov.
The work on the inspection has been assigned to the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SGP), which is yet to clarify facts and circumstances related to the activities of the football federation in recent years. In the course of the inspection, information is to be requested from various state institutions – Ministry of Youth and Sports, NRA, etc.
Things usually happen like this in our country – public discontent brews and then the institutions somehow start to act. The question is – where was the prosecution in the last 18 years? It is not the first time that the BFS schemes and suspicions of corruption on the part of Bobi Mihailov and his colleagues at the helm have been discussed in the public space and in the media.
Mihailov is also suspected in match-fixing schemes. He was spotted celebrating in Singapore together with the boss of the black lottery Dan Tan and the former president of Belasitsa with a dubious reputation Kostadin Hadjiivanov – Kotse Matsa. Two weeks later, a contract was signed with the company “Hooty International Media”, which is controlled by Dan Tan through proxies, for the holding of a control match between Bulgaria and Estonia in Antalya. The match was investigated and the result annulled. Accusations of match-fixing come from many sides, including Hristo Stoichkov.
Only now, however, did the prosecutor’s office see the need to self-report and investigate. What he will discover – we can only guess.
