With a project under the Norwegian program in Sliven, measures will be taken against the so-called “heat island” by building a green “corridor” between two city parks. This was said by Mayor Stefan Radev at a briefing held at the construction site. The place is emblematic of Sliven and is known as the “Alley of Roses”.
“There will be more greenery, new pavement, water fountains for people and animals, Radev pointed out. There will be temperature measurements in the sun and in the shade to show the difference and the real effect on the temperature of landscaping.”
It is planned to enrich the existing landscaping by planting new deciduous and coniferous tree species, evergreen and flowering shrubs and perennial flowers. Recreation areas will be built, where garden benches will be installed, water features – walls.
The project is worth BGN 430,000, financed under a Norwegian program that combats urban heat islands. The aim is to improve the surrounding space by building a new green infrastructure. It combines a number of adaptation and mitigation measures to climate change, identifying zones to combat warming in an urban environment.
