In a joint initiative between “Angel Kanchev-1901” Elementary School Ruse and “Angel Kanchev” Primary School, the first official Reading Day in Bulgaria was celebrated. Of course, we’ve done many similar gatherings over the years where both librarians and children have read excerpts from beloved works, but this time we decided to do a “sampling” of the most well-read children from each elementary grade. Each of the pre-selected children from 1st to 4th grade read an excerpt from their favorite book. The first-timers impressed us with a fluent reading of the Primer, and on leaving said that “we will definitely see you soon!”
We heard excerpts from favorite fairy tales such as Plums in the Garbage, The Kingdom of Patilan, Pippi Longstocking and Little Red Riding Hood. The older students, from the 4th “b” class made a real dramatization based on the poems of the beloved Bulgarian poet Maya Dalgacheva, and the big surprise was presented by the children from the 3rd “b” class with the class teacher Mrs. Snezhana Beneva, who read excerpts from a book written and published jointly by them.
We don’t know if the reading turned out exactly “sexy” in the words of one minister, but it was a fun, interesting and exciting adventure. We promised ourselves many more such meetings and we sincerely thank the entire team of “Angel Kanchev” Elementary School for the wonderful partnership over the years!
