Hurricane-like winds lashed Bulgaria over the weekend, and fallen trees claimed at least two lives. Along the Black Sea, 5-meter waves flooded boats and restaurants along the beaches. There were also first snowfalls in the country. All this will continue during the next weekend (November 25-26), forecaster Petar Yankov predicts in Studio Actualno.

Strong winds again

After a temporary easing of winds in the first half of this week – strong winds are expected again at the end of the week, almost to the same levels as November 18-19, he said.

A Mediterranean cyclone will pass on Wednesday. Strong winds are expected again on Saturday. In the Danube plain, they will have a speed of up to 50 km/h, and in Dobruja and along the Black Sea – 80-90 km/h. “These are strong winds, they are called “fierce storms”, warned Petar Yankov.

On Wednesday, there will be precipitation mainly from rain, and the temperatures will be around 10-15 degrees Celsius. In the northwestern regions, it is expected to be 8-9 degrees.

Snow showers await us on the high western fields and in the mountains on Saturday. At an altitude above 2000 meters, a snow cover of 10-15 cm will form.

“There are many unfavorable weather conditions in the Balkans. Now there are dangerous weather phenomena that threaten our lives – intense rainfall and strong winds. People should be careful, pass away from tall trees. Some poplars have already been removed – on the road between Sofia and Samokov, for example,” said the forecaster.

The temperatures

On Thursday, temperatures will drop slightly, it will be rainy. On Friday, the rain temporarily stops during the day, but in the evening and on Saturday, more intense rains begin with a drop in temperatures. On Sunday they will stop again. There will be strong excitement along the Black Sea – especially on Saturday evening and Sunday, Petar Yankov warned.
