The automatic identification system of the hijacked off Yemen ship “Galaxy Leader” has been disabled. This is confirmed by satellite tracking data on the “MarineTraffic” site. There are two Bulgarian citizens on board. Japan, which operates the ship, denounced the hijacking.
The vessel is owned by a British company, part of which is owned by one of Israel’s richest men, Abraham “Rami” Ungar.
Ungar is a sponsor of the Naval School in Varna. The school’s website states that for the past 20 years, Ungar’s company has helped organize training, employ graduates of the school, and improve the school’s facilities.
In 2014, the Israeli businessman received the honorary title “Doctor honoris causa” of the educational institution.
The Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior confirmed for “Po sveta i u nas” that two Bulgarians are among the abducted – one is the captain of the vessel.
News of the kidnapping came from the Israeli government and was confirmed by US military sources.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for the abduction. A Houthi spokesman said they were “treating the crew in accordance with the principles and values of Islam”.
A few days ago, the Houthis threatened to “sink every Israeli ship”. Tel Aviv denies the hijacked ship is Israeli. There are no Israeli citizens on board. “Galaxy Leader” sailed from Turkey to India.
