A long-term vision in energy, strong political will, consistency and continuity, as well as a personnel base of specialists are necessary for the energy development of Bulgaria. This was outlined by MEP Tsvetelina Penkova during the forum “Innovations in energy storage – a key to a sustainable energy transition”.
According to her, Bulgaria has a strategic advantage in the fields of geothermal energy and hydropower. Penkova also explained that when we talk about the energy mix, it must be assessed – what is the distribution between basic and renewable energy sources.
“What I see and observe in Europe and what we currently have as a given, maybe 60 to 40 is a good mix for Bulgaria. 60 – base, 40 renewable, and that would give us enough flexibility to keep its role as an energy exporter”, summed up Tsvetelina Penkova, MEP from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
