Organizers of an illegal casino in Blagoevgrad have been arrested, the District Prosecutor’s Office – Blagoevgrad announced. Under the direction of the prosecutor’s office, actions are carried out on an investigation of pre-trial proceedings for arranging a gambling game not according to the procedure established by law.
The prosecutor’s office reports that a search was carried out on November 17, and numerous physical evidences were seized. Two people have been brought in as defendants – N.B. and V.G. It was established that in the period from December 2022 until the day of the searches, in a room on “Georgi Izmirliev” square in Blagoevgrad, the two organized gambling games without the corresponding permission – a license under the Gambling Act.
The accused were responsible for the overall operation of the illegal casino, providing various persons with tokens of various denominations for payment, white cards for a bet and with the possibility of winning, poker chips, the prosecutor’s office also reported. In the gambling games, all participants entered with a cash deposit with a pre-agreed condition – the winner of the game would receive the bets of the losing participants after deducting the sum of five percent for the organizer, the state indictment also states.
At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Blagoevgrad, the court took measures to ensure “detention in custody” against the accused N.B. and V.G., also indicated by the prosecutor’s office. From there, they add that the Commission for Combating Corruption and for Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property has been notified. In view of the act for which the defendants are brought to criminal responsibility, and the unlawful benefit established in the case, actions should be taken to verify their property status, the District Prosecutor’s Office – Blagoevgrad also reports.
