By the end of the first quarter of 2024, the Road Infrastructure Agency will announce a public tender for the selection of a contractor for the development of a technical project for the expansion of the road between Stara Zagora Airport and Trakia Motorway. This became clear from the answer of the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Andrey Tsekov, to a question by the People’s Representatives Radoslav Ribarski and Radoslav Vasilev.
The indicative value of the public order is BGN 350,000 without VAT, Minister Tsekov stated in his answer. The funds will be provided from the API budget for the next year.
“In 2006, a technical project was developed for the modernization of the nearly 5-kilometer section of the I-5 road. In 2011 it was updated. At the moment, it is necessary to develop new project documentation that corresponds to modern construction standards and meets the increased traffic intensity. Given the requirements related to road safety, it is necessary to develop new technical solutions for road intersections,” wrote Andrey Tsekov in his answer to the question of the two Stara Zagorje MPs from “Continuing the Change”.
In order for the project to be completed, however, it is necessary to wait for the pronouncement of the RISW, as is clear from Minister Tsekov’s answer. “Decision from 2006 (No. 32-PR/2006) for assessing the need to carry out an EIA and Decision from 2010 (No. 52-OS/2010) for assessing the probable degree of negative impact that have lost their validity. Therefore, the relevant environmental procedure will be carried out.”
After that, it will be possible to carry out procedures for choosing a contractor for construction repair works and construction supervision. This is expected to happen in 2025, the regional minister also writes.
