The renovated railway station of Stara Zagora will be opened this afternoon. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Minister of Transport Georgi Gvozdeikov are arriving for the event.
The overhaul lasted more than three years. The building where the ticket offices and the waiting room are located, the space around the station, the subways and the coverings of the platforms have been renovated.
The first sod for the reconstruction of the railway station in Stara Zagora was made on July 28, 2020 After that, it was decided to change the color from yellow to green, emblematic of the Beroe football club. The first opening date was in October 2021. After that, the contractors’ plan was to have the station ready on May 13, 2022., but complications with the project again delayed the opening by nearly 3 months. On August 5 2022 the renovation was still not finished and the new launch date was pushed back to the middle of November 2022. At the end of 2022, from an answer to a parliamentary question, it became clear that the renovation will be completed in April 2023 Seven months later, the official opening of the renovated railway station is coming.
The renovation is part of the project “Reconstruction of Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora station complexes”, financed under OP “Transport and transport infrastructure” 2014-2020 in the value BGN 9,726,944.
