The co-chairman of the PP Kiril Petkov stated in “Hello, Bulgaria” that the Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov was proposed for the post as an expert by GERB. According to him, when forming the cabinet, they were looking for an expert who would be as neutral as possible, considering the upcoming elections.
“Colleagues from GERB forget what happened just a few months ago. For the Ministry of the Interior, it was very important that the election be as neutral as possible,” said Petkov.

“They turned down a few of ours, we turned down a few of their expert names. Kalin Stoyanov was submitted as an expert by GERB, but we went to interview him. At that moment he was undecided,” he added.
“After we saw that he was a young and unattached professional at GDBOP, we offered him the position. He took 2 days to think and replied, “Okay, I agree.” The names mainly came from Maria Gabriel and Academician Denkov”, stated Kiril Petkov. He added that Kalin Stoyanov was proposed for the post, as far as he remembers, by Maria Gabriel or Boyko Borisov.
The co-chairman of the PP criticized the interior minister for changing 17 directors of regional directorates of the Ministry of the Interior without consensus. “Are you sure that no one is influencing you on these appointments? Why didn’t you at least gather the groups and do it from today to tomorrow?” Petkov stated to the interior minister at the time. According to him, the last conversation between the two was from mid-August.
“We don’t want a country in which it is normal for the Ministry of the Interior to fight people with a baton and the next morning the minister not only says that it was OK, but he went to the cinema,” said Petkov. According to him, GERB and DPS “jumped to defend the minister” as if it was “a matter of life and death”.
