A 19-year-old schoolgirl in Sliven was raped for a year by a 55-year-old man. He threatened her with a weapon and warned that if she gave it out, he would kill her brother. She told bTV that her friend introduced her to him and the next day, during the break, the man made her go to his house to get some things . After turning the key, he pulled out a gun and began to tell her how he had killed a policeman, that he was in prison and was not afraid of anything. He made her have sex on camera and then blackmailed her with the pornographic photos and videos.
However, the rapist was arrested by the police on charges of rape and fornication. When the girl’s nightmare began, she was 18 years old. The man is from his grandparents’ village.
“Our first meeting was at the Third Polyclinic next to the hospital. My friend introduced us to him. The next day at recess he was in front of the school. We went to their place to get some things and that’s where all the stress started,” said the injured girl.
“With each subsequent meeting, he blackmailed me with videos and nude photos – that he would upload and distribute them at my school, that he would stick them there and in the village, next to my mother’s work, and that he would kill my brother. That’s why I didn’t go to the police. I was also worried that if he didn’t go to jail for years, it would be dangerous for us,” it added.
The girl’s mother noticed a change.
“It took a toll on her. He kept asking me what was going on. I was very changed. I didn’t talk to anyone, I didn’t communicate with girlfriends. I was closing in on myself, but I told myself “this will pass, be strong!”, the victim said.
“This guy used to come when mom was on her second shift or first shift and when she was visiting grandma. He threatened me that if I told anyone it would get worse. He told me: “You can get out of prison, but not out of the cemetery,” she says.
One day, the abuser called the victim to his home, where another girl was locked up.
“It’s 23 years old. I found out from her that she is not even allowed to go to the toilet. He went to the room as needed. There is an ax behind the door,” says the victim.
“I was locked up for almost a month. He cut me with a knife. He also threatened me with an axe. He told me that if I tried to escape, he would find me and blow me up. My relatives knew nothing. I had a husband with whom I lived on a family basis,” shared the 23-year-old girl.
“This guy was friends with my dad. I had lured him and that’s how I managed to escape,” she adds.
“I don’t want to remember the records. I don’t want to comment on them, but I have sought the assistance of you, the media, because I am afraid that the case may be downplayed and not taken as seriously as it should be,” said the brother of the 19-year-old girl.
He also talked to other victims of the abuser.
There is also a minor girl, the abuser also threatened boys, says the young man.
“The prosecution has evidence of this and must consider what punishment such a person deserves. I fear for my sister and my family, because if this person is released, he will seek revenge,” he shared.
“The man is charged with rape and fornication. He can get 2 to 8 years in prison. Such are the Bulgarian laws,” commented Dani Atanasova.
