In the region, Bulgarian tourists sleep in 1 and 2 star hotels, foreigners – 4 and 5 stars

136 places of accommodation with 10 or more beds – hotels, lodges and other places for short-term accommodation – were operating in V. Tarnovo region in September, the Territorial Statistical Bureau reports. The number of rooms in them is 2,267, and the number of beds is 4,842. Compared to September 2022, the total number of accommodation places operating during the period increased by 3.0%, and the number of beds in them increased by 6.0% .
The total number of overnight stays in all accommodations was 33,011, or 9.9% more than in the same month of the previous year. There is an increase in overnight stays by foreign citizens by 23.7% and by Bulgarians – by 5.4% compared to September 2022.
The number of people staying overnight in accommodation facilities in the Veliko Tarnovo region was 19,426, or 12.8% more compared to the same month of the previous year. Of all those who stayed the night, 66.7% were Bulgarian citizens (12,957 people), and the largest part of them (71.1%) stayed in 1- and 2-star accommodation. The number of foreign citizens who stayed overnight was 6,469. Most of them (44.9%) spent the night in 4- and 5-star accommodations. 18.7% of them spent the night in 3-star places. Citizens from Romania stayed the most – 29.3%, followed by Spain – 8.6%, Germany – 6.9%, France – 5.4%, China – 5.2%, United Kingdom – 4.1 %, and from the USA – 3.7 %.
The total occupancy of beds in accommodation facilities in Veliko Tarnovo region is 22.8%, which is 8.9 percentage points lower than the national average (31.7%). The highest occupancy is in the accommodation places with category 4 and 5 stars – 37.9%, followed by that in the places with 3 stars – 22.4%. The lowest occupancy of beds is observed in those with category 1 and 2 stars – 20.4%. In September 2023, compared to the same month of 2022, total employment increased by 0.9 percentage points.
The income from overnight stays in the Veliko Tarnovo region is BGN 1,924.0 thousand, or 22.2% more compared to September 2022. The reported increase is both from foreign citizens – by 23.7%, and from Bulgarians – by 21.4%. The largest part (56.1%) of the realized revenue from overnight stays during the month in the district came in the accommodation places categorized with 1 and 2 stars.
