Bulgaria is far from Dubai, but still has solid deposits of natural gas.

A Bulgarian household that decides to use natural gas for heating this winter, instead of electricity, will save about BGN 1,600 in one year. This is what the executive director of “Overgaz” Svetoslav Ivanov said for “Revision” on “Nova TV”.

“Gas is a significantly more environmentally friendly fuel than all its artificially grafted brothers, such as coal and oil products. If the politicians get their act together, within a year Bulgaria can start producing its own natural gas consumption for the next 15 years. From January 1, 2008 . by the end of last year, our society spent about BGN 6.5 billion on investments in renewable sources. I’m not saying that this is bad. Maybe the one who does it sees some benefits in this action. However, we must always be prepared for alternative scenarios. With half of them, 1 million Bulgarian households could have been gasified, which today would save nearly BGN 3 billion per year from energy cost savings,” he believes.

According to him, we are the only country in the region that has reduced the consumption of natural gas. “If there is an excessive amount of unjustified tolerance towards enterprises that are controlled by the state, this certainly reflects on the interest of the end user. If there is equal treatment under appropriate market conditions, there is no problem with one company being state-owned and another to be private. There is only one enterprise in the energy market in Bulgaria, it is “Bulgargaz”, which fulfills the function of a public supplier. This is a service that cannot be refused by law, for which there are no clearly written rules. There is nowhere to find a document that gives a clear definition,” commented Ivanov.
