
130 students from the Profiled Humanitarian High School “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in Veliko Tarnovo will undergo training within the educational program “Judiciary – informed choice and civil trust. Open courts and prosecutor’s offices” during the current academic year. It is planned that the young people will go through a lecture course, in which their trainers will be the chairman of the District Court – Veliko Tarnovo, judge Mladen Dimitrov and the vice-chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice – judge Kiril Khajitanev. The first lecture of the planned program was held on 17.11.2023, and the graduates of the high school were welcomed by Judge Dimitrov and Judge Hadjitanev in the courtrooms of the District Court – Veliko Tarnovo. The students were introduced to the basic structure and functions of the judiciary and had the opportunity to ask any questions that concerned them. They showed interest in various criminal proceedings that received a wide public response, in the types of punishments and in various aspects of the judges’ work.
For the first time, the “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” is a partner of the District Court – Veliko Tarnovo within the framework of the educational program. Students from eighth to twelfth grade from the profiled class “Law and Journalism” will participate in the training. In addition to the total of seven lecture courses provided in the program, the young people will have the opportunity to attend real court hearings.
The educational program “The Judiciary – informed choice and civil trust. Open courts and prosecutor’s offices” is implemented by the Supreme Judicial Council and the Ministry of Education and Science, by virtue of a signed cooperation agreement. It is aimed at forming legal literacy and culture among students, increasing their confidence in the judiciary and the rule of law.
