The Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov and his Romanian counterpart – the Minister of Economy, Enterprise and Tourism Stefan-Pady Opia will open a Bulgarian-Romanian conference on the theme: “United Europe – a path to economic security and sustainable integration”, reported the Bulgarian Economic department. The event will take place on November 23 (Thursday), at 11:00 a.m., in the “Europe” hall of the Revenue Building in Ruse.
The main topic will be the losses for the region and for investors from the delay of the acceptance of the two countries in the Schengen area through the eyes of the bilateral foreign chambers of commerce.
The economic future of the region, key infrastructure projects, and good practices among businesses are also expected to be discussed.
The event will be attended by investors, representatives of foreign and local businesses and chambers of commerce of both countries.
MEPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps, as well as local authorities are also invited.
The forum is organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Romania.
In the second half of October, Minister Bogdanov held an online meeting with his colleague Štefan-Pady Oppia, during which the two discussed the losses that businesses and investors from both countries are suffering from the non-admission of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen. Bulgaria and Romania are more than ready to enter the Schengen area, the economic ministers of both countries said at the time.
A reference on the website of the Ministry of Economy of Bulgaria shows that the total Romanian investments in Bulgaria as of December 31, 2021 amount to 366.3 million euros. In 2021, the flow of investments amounted to 81.3 million euros, and in the first half of 2022 they were worth 54.3 million euros. According to the department’s data, published at the end of January, Bulgarian exports to Romania grew by over 40 percent in the first ten months of last year and exceeded 4 billion euros.
