35 municipal councilors in Burgas demanded that the regional governor of Burgas, Plamen Yanev, resign.
The reason for his removal is that they felt offended by his speech at the opening of the first municipal session of the local parliament amid elections. At it, the governor downplayed the election of the mayor and municipal councilors because of the low voter turnout, which was around 40%
The declaration of Yanev’s removal will be sent to Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Deputy Prime Minister Maria Gabriel and Chairman of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov. It lacked only the signatures of the Central European class and one of a councilor from “Vazrazhdane”. Among the signatories to the removal of Plamen Yanev were surprisingly the municipal councilors from Continue the change, whose appointment is the regional governor in Burgas.
The initiator of the request for the removal of the regional governor was Georgi Manev from KOD.
Here are Yanev’s words from his speech at the opening of the first municipal session in Burgas, which irritated the municipal councilors.
“Dear ladies and gentlemen of municipal councilors, unfortunately you are receiving a heavy inheritance. In 2007, more than 96,000 citizens of Burgas found it meaningful to go and elect the municipal councilors who will govern in the next 4 years.
Four terms later, 40% less made such an effort. Indifference, ladies and gentlemen, to bodies that should be elected by the people is greater than … This means that the citizens of the municipality do not find any meaning, and rather – less and less citizens of the municipality find meaning and they see the importance of the composition of the Municipal Council.”
